Following the violence at Ramjas College, the 20-year-old Delhi girl, Gurmehar Kaur became the centre of the controversy when she shared a video supporting the 'Fightback DU' campaign against the 'Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad'. As part of the #StudentsAgainstABVP campaign, Gurmehar posted pictures and videos of herself on social media, holding placards which read 'I am not afraid of ABVP' and 'Pakistan did not kill my dad, the war killed him'.
Following Gurmehar's footsteps, students across the country started sharing pictures holding similar placards. Jumping into the fray, cricketer Virender Sehwag also took to Twitter to share a picture of himself holding a placard saying, 'I did not score two triple centuries. My bat did.'
Bollywood actor, Randeep Hooda also shared Virender Sehwag's tweet.
While people were busy criticising Sehwag, Randeep came out in support of Sehwag and said that Gurmehar is being used as a political pawn. "What's sad is that the poor girl is being used as political pawn and it seems you are a party to it," Hooda told a Twitter user who had called him out for supporting Sehwag's interpretation of Gurmehar's post.
Taking a stand for herself, Gurmehar hit back saying, "Political pawn? I can think. I don't support violence perpetuated on students. Is that so wrong?"
Supporting Gurmehar and slamming Randeep and Sehwag for bullying the girl, Prashant Bhushan tweeted:
Randeep Hooda later took to Facebook to justify his stance. He wrote in the post:
Exasperated with the constant threats of rape and murder, Gurmehar said that she has been through a lot while asking students to take part in the protest in large numbers, and asked to be left alone.
