In the film, Kumar played the part of a Mughal Prince, Salim who ends up falling in love with a court dancer, Anarkali. His acting skills truly paid off to make this film an iconic one of all time.

This film had a stellar cast comprising of Dilip Kumar, Vyjayantimala, Pran and Johnny Walker. The film had a slight goth vibe to it considering it dealt with the issue of reincarnation. Under the brilliant direction of Bimal Roy, Dilip Kumar's dialogue delivery was fantastic in this film. Also, we hear that his personalised touches to the character were much appreciated by Roy.
