'Kapoor & Sons': Most mainstream Bollywood films have always portrayed homosexuality in a very over the top cliched way. Which is why 'Kapoor & Sons' came like a breath of fresh air when they portrayed Fawad Khan as a homosexual man who was yet to come out to his family. Neither was he loud nor was he ostentatious or over the top which is what made this film so perfect.

In 1996, way ahead of its time, 'Fire' starring Shabana Azmi and Nandita Das made the headlines for its content. The duo played women whose husbands had abandoned them and so they found comfort in each other. The film takes you through their complicated yet beautiful relationship in such a wonderful manner that it'll stay with you for a long, long time.

The film explores the stories of a number of newlywed couples on their honeymoon, however, one married man comes out as gay to his wife. The film very beautifully captures the turmoils he faces and how his wife helps him accept his orientation.

This film was a compilation of four short films directed by Anurag Kashyap, Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, and Dibakar Banerjee. Karan Johar's film portrayed the struggle of a married man (Randeep Hooda) who finds himself falling in love with his wife's (Rani Mukerjee) intern(Saqib Saleem). His struggle to accept this fact drives a wedge between himself and his wife.

If there is an understated movie in the film industry it has to be this one. Rajkummar Rao and Manoj Bajpayee were absolutely fantastic in this film. It follows the journey of a college professor who is harassed and suspended from his job just because he's a closet gay. Endearing and honest, this film will certainly leave its mark on you.
