Start in the shower: For someone who has thick curly hair, you'll have to start this process while you're in the shower. While no shampoo or conditioner can give you straight hair, you should at least opt for a smoothing shampoo so that your hair becomes manageable. Post this, use some conditioner on your hair and then brush it with a paddle brush.
02/8Do not apply products to dry hair
It's imperative that you do not apply products to dry hair. Whatever heat protectant product you are going to use, should be applied to damp hair and then you should use your straightening iron on your hair. Dry hair is unable to absorb the products so when you straighten your hair, you'll just end up boiling the products into your hair follicles. Now, that isn't exactly healthy, is it?
03/8Don't use a round brush
Round brushes help add curls to the bottom of your hair so we suggest you avoid using them. Instead, opt for paddle brushes. They'll help keep the ends of your hair straight and will give you that super sleek look. Brush your hair thoroughly so as to avoid any tangles.
04/8Use a ceramic iron
If you don't have a ceramic iron, we suggest you invest in one now. Ceramic helps distribute the heat evenly. Otherwise, your iron will have hot spots that will only straighten your hair in those spots. Not only will this take up a lot of your time, it will also end up making your hair look patchy.
05/8Use an iron with wider plates
This is pretty much one of the most practical things you can do. When buying a heating iron, make sure you buy one with wider plates. If you have thick hair, it is going to take a lot of time to iron your hair. So, if the plates of the iron are thin, it'll take even longer.
06/8Use a heat protectant
We cannot stress enough on how important this step is. If you want to save your hair from heat damage, you absolutely need to use a heat protecting spray. And if you're someone who styles their hair regularly, then this product is a must-have for you.
07/8Don’t use serum beforehand
Do NOT make this mistake ladies. It will literally fry your hair. Using a serum before heating your hair can cause serious damage to it. The heat will fry your strands, so instead, use some serum after you're done styling your hair. It'll help you get that smooth, sleek look.
08/8You need to add volume
Even if you have super thick hair, straightening it will make it look flat. So if you want to maintain that volume, what you can do is lift your hair up and style it from the roots to the tips. This way your hair will look a little fluffy and will have that voluminous look.
