Create a target list: One thing you need to understand is that companies, much like humans, also have specific ethics and ideologies. They have a target group that they work for and you too should have a list of target companies you would like to work for. Don't just apply anywhere and everywhere. Make a list and figure out what profile you would like to join.

Once you've narrowed down on a few companies, it's time to begin the research. Try to learn everything there is about the company an outsider can know. Check out what their background is, what kind of work they do, what work values they have etc. Also, try to figure out if you're a good fit for them and vice-versa.

Make sure that you have a proper online profile because that is the first thing an employer looks at for information about a potential employee. If you're a writer, create a profile about it on social media. If you're a food blogger make sure it shows on your social media handles. This will really help you stand out from all the other people out there.

This is pretty much the best possible way to get them to notice you. For example, say they're looking for a food blogger. Send them a written piece of your work. Show them you have what it takes to be a part of their firm. So, instead of waiting for them to ask you to do something, you've already done some work for them.

Get in touch with as many people as you know and ask them to help you out. Even if you think someone might not really even be related to any particular job you're looking for, ask them to keep a look out. You never know when someone might help an opportunity drop in your lap.

You need to make sure you have a resume with recent accomplishments. While you may have done something really important five years ago, employers generally look for people who can do the job now. So make sure you have something on your resume that might interest them.

Sometimes companies don't get back to you despite repeatedly calling and checking in with them. This should be your cue to stop. They might not have a vacancy or you might not have a profile that fits their requirement. So, rather than wasting both of your time, move on to a more viable option.
