You’ve heard it time and time again: You must wear sunscreen every day to protect your skin from the sun’s damaging ultraviolet (UV) rays. But if you’re a makeup-obsessed person, it's a struggle to incorporate this skin-saving staple into your daily beauty routine while prioritizing a full face.
The worry of breaking out or an undesirable cakey appearance might keep you from re-applying sunscreen without taking any makeup off. However, nixing sunscreen altogether is a massive mistake your skin can't afford to pay for every time. Not only does sunscreen help prevent skin aging, but research also proves that its regular use can reduce the risk of skin cancer. Also, UVA exposure has been linked to melanoma, freckles, hyper pigmentation and wrinkles.
Sunscreen that are formulated specifically for the face are more lighter than traditional sunscreens. They are often made to go underneath cosmetics and work wonders if used with hydrating primers.
Laying the foundation
For added protection, opt for a foundation that contains an SPF 15 or higher. Look for foundations and BB creams that include at least 5% of Zinc Oxide. Zinc oxide reflects both UVA and UVB rays off the skin, causing optimal sun protection.
Busting the myth
Layering multiple products that all contain sun protection won't boost the total amount of protection received. You will most likely just benefit from the highest SPF product used amongst the rest.
After adding all the final touches (i.e blush, bronzer, highlighter), set makeup with a finishing powder or setting spray inclusive of powerful sunscreen ingredients. For reapplication throughout the day, use a powdered sunscreen on top of your foundation.
There you have it! You can now go about your day without worrying about harmful sun rays penetrating your skin or sacrificing your makeup.
