Movies are a medium for entertainment today. But it also displays the reality of life through fictional stories inspired by the characters or lives observed by filmmakers. Most of the movies are freshly written, while there are many which are inspired by famous books or themes. We all even come across a few movies which are based on real-life events. The only flaw with making such films based on reality is simply the fact that such films create controversies as the real-life events on which the film is based wouldn’t be any normal day-to-day issue but an event that may be linked to a huge scandal, mystery, terrorist attack, etc. So take a look at some films which were based on real-life stories.
02/12'Airlift'
The movie is based on the massive evacuation of Indians from Kuwait during the Saddam Hussain invasion of 1990. Ranjit Katiyal played by Akshay Kumar in the film, an Indian businessman, leads a happy and successful life in Kuwait with his family. However, when Iraq invades Kuwait, he alone plans on a common operation to contact the Indian Embassy and ask for help to get hundreds of Indian people back to India from Kuwait amid the war zone. A story of relentless courage of a single man to help the others and join all ends to make it happen. The film also stars Nimrat Kaur in the lead role.

Bajirao Mastani is a period movie directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who likewise made the music score out of the film. The film stars Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and Priyanka Chopra. Tanvi Azmi, Vaibhav Tatwawaadi, and Milind Soman show up in supporting parts. In view of the Marathi novel Raau by Nagnath S. Inamdar, the film portrays the narrative of the Maratha Peshwa Bajirao (1700-1740 AD) and his second wife Mastani.

The movie is based on a classified mission that was taken up by the Indian Navy against some rebellious forces of the then East Pakistan, now Bangladesh. In 1971, an Indian Naval submarine, S21, intercepts a Pakistani submarine, PNS Ghazi, in its water during a routine surveillance and thwarts its mission of destroying INS Vikrant.

The film is based on Aarushi murder case. Starring Irrfan Khan, Konkana Sen Sharma, Neeraj Kabi and many others in important roles, the film is directed by Meghna Gulzar. 'Talvar' is purely based on the 2008 Double Murder Case, also known as Aarushi Murder Case. The film tries to narrate the story from the perspective of Irrfan Khan’s character, Ashwin Kumar, which was based on real-life CBI Investigator Arun Kumar, IPS, the lead investigator of Aarushi Murder Case. Instead of the giving away the verdict, the film displays all the possible events and lets the audience decide for themselves.

The Sri Lankan civil war and assassination of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi is what lead in making the political thriller 'Madras Cafe'. Directed by Shoojit Sircar, John Abraham, Leena Paul and Nargis Fakhri in the leading roles. This movie tells us how the Indian political history changed and how plans were made for the assassination, which could have been foiled if bureaucratic intricacies had not tangled the case.

'Mary Kom' was a significant effort from Omung Kumar. The film is based on Mary Kom, is an Olympic Indian boxer, when encounters a renowned coach in a boxing gym, she shares her boxing aspirations with him and convinces him to teach her. Despite her father's disapproval, she follows her passion. The movie was rather pictured as a documentary, without many dramatic elements. Priyanka Chopra’s performance was appreciated by Indian audience.

This film showed how the underworld grew stronger in Mumbai from drugging and other wrong activities. It is directed by Milan Lutharia and casts Ajay Devgan, Emraan Hashmi, Prachi Desai, Kangana Ranaut and Randeep Huda. Its characters were inexactly motivated by criminals Haji Mastan and Dawood Ibrahim.

The drama starring Rani Mukerji and Vidya Balan was based on the controversial Jessica Lal murder case and closely followed the public outrage and media coverage that led to the killer’s sentence. The Rajkumar Gupta-directed film was a clear winner with generous praise. The movie created much excitement among viewers.
