Recently the members of Karni Sena attacked 'Padmavati' director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, over the alleged distortion of historical facts. Shocked by the physical assault on the director, members of the film fraternity took to social media to express their outrage and ire. Amongst the various opinions and facts put forth, Sushant Singh Rajput in an act of solidarity towards the director dropped 'Rajput' from his surname for a day.
Sushant Singh Rajput took to Twitter to talk about the assault and said that the country would continue to suffer if the identity of its' citizen's was defined by their surnames.
Talking about his decision to drop the surname for a day, Sushant told PTI, “Yes, I did it for a day to show that the unfortunate action is not what everyone with that surname endorses. They do not represent the entire Rajputs. There are ways to express your ideas, but violence is never an answer, and that too just on mere speculation.”
When asked if the decision to drop 'Rajput' from the surname was permanent, the actor quipped, “I am not changing my name, that was a way to express that I don’t endorse the view of a particular group which claims to be the representative of entire Rajputs and probably India.”
