Renowned columnist Shobhaa De recently took to her Twitter handle and shared a picture of police officer Daulatram Jogawat, who weighs around 180 kilograms, and mocked him with the caption:
This did not go down too well with the team handling the Mumbai police’s Twitter handle, which responded to Shobhaa’s remark within a couple of hours:
Following this, Shobhaa received a lot of criticism from Twitterati for the insensitive body shaming on her part. What was yet to come was Daulatram Jogawat's side of the story. Justifying his weight, Jogawat told HT, “It (his weight) is due to my illness that I am so fat, and not due to overeating. I had gall bladder operation in 1993 and I developed insulin imbalance which resulted in my obesity.”
When prodded to comment on Shobhaa’s remark, the policeman added, “If madam wants, she can pay for my treatment. Who doesn’t want to be thin?”
What’s left to be seen is how Shobhaa would react to this suggestion from Jogawat.
