While 15th August is technically a holiday, all kids had to wake up early to reach school in early morning for the flag hoisting and parade. However what made it even more sweet was the fact that schools would distribute chocolates or sweets after the celebrations.

Soaking in the festive spirit and the celebratory mode, a lot of people dress up in the shades of the flag. In fact, some offices encourage the employees to dress up on the occasion.

To encourage people to step out during the holiday, all the major brands offer various discounts. The latest trend being that the discount offered is in some way shape or form related to the year of Independence.

Furthering the celebratory festive spirit, a lot of restaurants create or curate special menus for the day. If not the whole menu, many also create a special dish to commemorate the occasion.
