Taking inspiration from some of the most landmark legal cases, these filmmakers managed to throw life into incidents forgotten. Here's a list of some of the most famous Bollywood films that defined courtroom drama to its best!
02/11No One Killed Jessica
'No One Killed Jessica' starring Rani Mukerji and Vidya Balan was a story about a sister's fight to bring her murdered sister to justice who was shot by the son of an influential Congress-nominated Member of Parliament. The film is based on the murder of Jessica Lal who was shot at a party as she refused to tender drinks. What made this case landmark is the fact that while so many people saw Jessica being shot at, nobody came forward during the trial as a witness against the accused.

Based on the real-life case of Naval Officer K. M. Nanavati, 'Rustom' saw Akshay Kumar play the lead in a story that changed the legal history of India. The case revolves around a naval officer who was accused of the murder of his wife's lover, however, he was declared not guilty by a jury. And it is since then that the jury system in India was abolished. The film also quite managed to get the old world charm that Bombay was!

Starring Irrfan Khan, Konkona Sen Sharma, Neeraj Kabi and Sohum Shah, Meghna Gulzar's 'Talvar' was based on the 2008 Noida double murder case. The storyline follows the murder of a teenage girl and her family servant who was found dead in the housed. A lot of mud-slinging followed later as the girl's parents were accused of the crime.

Based on the life of Sarabjit Singh, a man who was imprisoned for 22 years and then sentenced to death by the Supreme Court of Pakistan for allegedly spying and terrorism. The story is a fight put up by Sarabjit's sister who wanted her brother to return safely back home. Starring Randeep Hooda, Aishwarya Rai, Richa Chadda and Darshan Kumar, the story was a heartwrenching tale of a man's suffering in the jail across the border.
06/11Shootout At Lokhandwala
With a stellar star cast that comprised of Vivek Oberoi, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Tusshar Kapoor, Arbaaz Khan, Rohit Roy, Abhishek Bachchan, Shabbir Ahluwalia, et al 'Shootout At Lokhandwala' was based on the 1991 gun battle between Mumbai police and gangsters. The shootout happened at a complex in Lokhandwala and thus the title of the film.

'Special 26' starring Akshay Kumar, Manoj Bajpayee, Anupam Kher, Kajal Aggarwal, Jimmy Shergill and Divya Dutta is a film inspired by the famous 1987 Opera House heist. The case, which though had gone unnoticed, was brought to life through the film. The story is about a group who posed as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers and executed an income tax raid on a jeweller in Mumbai.

Based on the life of lawyer and human rights activist Shahid Azmi, 'Shahid' played by Rajkummar Rao is a tale of a man who was assassinated in 2010. The story revolves around a man who witnesses life when he gets acquitted in a case of terrorism while innocent and then moves on to makes life better until he gets killed while fighting a case of a yet another innocent.

Based on the 1993 Bombay bombings that shook the whole nation, 'Black Friday' is a tale that one cannot miss on hearing. The film largely spoke about the victims, the Mumbai police and the accused. The one day that changed the state of the city.
