Sonam Kapoor’s first appearance at the Cannes Film Festival was a milestone as an actress and as global celebrity. Over the years, Sonam has worn elegant, avant-garde, Indian and Western at the red carpet with effervescent flamboyance. Her stylist and sister, Rhea Kapoor revealed "I think this year we are going to focus on simplicity and elegance... It will be more on Sonam's personality and where she is in her life right now. “That she’d wow the audience wasn’t a speculation then and isn’t one even now. The Cannes Film Festival has already begun and while Sonam Kapoor may not have made her way up at the French Rivera just yet, we thought now would be a good time check out how she’s wow’ed us over the years.

Sonam ensured that her first time at the Cannes was as glorious as everyone expected it to be – and as she stepped out in a Jean Paul Gaultier haute couture gown, she did not disappoint. A part of the Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2009, the couture had a mesh overlay over the white gown and an abstract black print over. Gorgeous and graceful!

Sonam Kapoor’s Indian representation at the Cannes Red Carpet was stunning to say the least. For the look, Sonam chose her an Ananmika Khanna dhoti saree and Sunita Kapoor (Sonam’s mom!) kundan choker. ( Both labels are the actress’s favourites. ) The flesh-toned modern-day dhoti saree was a risky choice, but Sonam made it work!

Sonam Kapoor’s custom Dolce & Gabbana gown may have inspired a lot of memes, but honestly had our hearts! While some criticized the look for the simple makeup and the loosely curled treasses, we loved the dramatic floral print, the colour co-ordinated necklace (from Sunita Kapoor’s jewellery line) and the floral pumps!

If Sonam Kapoor’s intentions were to look like a living, breathing angel, as she waltzed on to the Cannes Red Carpet, her plan succeeded. The elegant, form-fitting Ralph & Russo gown came with a long, elaborate cape that featured tone-on-tone appliqué work. Her dewy makeup and Chopard necklace came through to keep that angelic shine alive!
