The time of copy-pasting styles and trends is over! We've all tried and tested various styles and trends over the years but maybe it's time that you stop and try opting for a style of your own instead. While it may not be an easy task to just create your own style, all you need is some inspiration and you will be good to go. Until then, use some of these tips to help you get started on figuring out your own personal style.
02/9Examine your current wardrobe
If you are looking to find your style, then you have to assess what you already have. Get rid of items that don't suit you any more or are just not matching your personality. The key is to identify your current style, which is constantly evolving. This way it won't be so hard to keep items that should stay or get rid of items it's time to say bye to. Here are some of the questions you should keep in mind: Is it worn out, ripped or stained? Is it out of style? Does it match anything else in your wardrobe?
03/9Accentuate your assets
The best way to dress in a way that suits you is by accentuating the best part of your body. Pick clothing and accessories that show off your curves or long legs. Or maybe you can highlight the beauty of the colour of your eyes. Make a note of your measurements so you can pick clothes that will fit well and look flattering. This is the time to have fun when you go shopping. Experiment with different styles and patterns and find what suits you and helps you shine.
04/9Figure out what you want to accomplish
What are your goals in life and in fashion? Get a journal out and write what comes to mind. Are you trying to get a high-powered job or looking to meet Mr Right? Research design elements and accessories that can help you achieve that goal. If you are looking for a better job, check out workwear outfits that suit your personality, but still look professional.
05/9Start with the right mindset
It's not like you might not know what your personal style is. It's just that you may not know specifically which style you prefer the most. However, what you need to remember is that personal style depends entirely on what you like and what you happen to be comfortable in, so it is something that will keep evolving as you change. This is why you shouldn't worry too much about focusing on just one thing and instead opt for attires that you happen to feel most comfortable and confident in.
06/9Figure out your preferences
Your personal style will obviously revolve around your preferences, which is why you need to figure out what you like. It doesn't need to be one thing and it certainly doesn't have to be something you saw on a celebrity. Try and experiment with different colours, prints, fabrics, patterns and silhouettes to help single in on a few choices.
07/9Style icons can help
While you may not want to look at celebrities for inspiration, might we suggest you go through Sonam Kapoor or Kareena Kapoor Khan's Instagram? They have some amazing OOTD outfits on there and those might certainly be able to inspire you to create your own style. And if you'd want to go a little old-school you could always look into iconic figures like Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly.
08/9Opt for a brand
There's no denying the fact that certain brands have the most amazing ensembles you'll ever see. So, go through as many options as you can and select a few brands that you can rely on. Now, depending on how much you can afford, this can go as far as opting for Manish Malhotra or Sabyasachi attires or if you want something that's a little more affordable you could try Zara or H&M.
09/9Opt for signature pieces
This, of course, depends on what you like the most. Do you like pants, trousers or skirts? Are you fonder of blazers or jackets? Now, you can't just wear a single outfit because it needs to be teamed with something else too. So, try and figure out at least one signature look that looks great on you. For example, you could team a statement tee with a denim skirt or you could throw on a trendy blazer with an LBD.
