Believe it or not, scalp acne is real. And no amount of coconut oil is going to cure it, because scalp acne happens because your scalp produces excess oil. Since scalp acne is covered with a thick mane of hair, treating it becomes a tad tricky. You want something that banishes the scalp acne, but doesn’t ruin your hair. For the uninitiated, fenugreek has plenty of anti-inflammatory properties that can come to your rescue. You'll need 1 tablespoon of fenugreek seed powder and 5 to 6 tablespoons of yoghurt (use plain, whole fat). Mix the ingredients together and let them sit for 2-3 hours. Apply the mixture to your hair and wash it off after 20 minutes and you'll see the difference.

Aloe vera contains anti-inflammatory as well as antibacterial properties which can help your scalp. Since it also contains antioxidants it can boost hair growth. Just use some aloe vera juice on your scalp and leave it on for 20-30 minutes before washing it off.

Mint leaves contain the three qualities that will work wonders for your scalp; they have - anti-inflammatory, astringent, and antiseptic properties. Take a handful of mint leaves and turn them into a paste in your blender. Apply the paste to your scalp and let it sit for 15-20 minutes before rinsing it off.

Tomatoes are extremely effective in balancing the pH level of the skin and hair. Tomato juice is also a natural source of salicylic acid. Hence, they’re such a popular remedy for acne. So if you have a terrible case of acne, apply some freshly squeezed tomato juice to the affected area. Keep it for an hour. Wash it off!

Garlic is also another natural rich source of salicylic acid. Aside from it, it also contains a huge amount of antioxidants, antiviral, and anti-fungal properties, making it the perfect component for an acne treatment. But don’t go rubbing garlic on your zit. Rinse your hair with a cup of tea. (Use 2-3 peeled cloves of garlic for 3 cups of water.)

Apple Cider Vinegar has to be the most effective and inexpensive treatment you can give to your hair. Not only will a simple rinse of one part apple cider vinegar and two parts water give your hair a healthy boost, you'll also give your scalp astringent properties that may alleviate painful blemishes.

While you can always pick a shampoo formulated with tea tree oil, if you’ve already bought your month’s share of shampoo, grab a bottle of tea tree oil, and drop 2-3 drops of the oil in a teaspoon of the shampoo before you wash your hair.
