In 2004, the actor pursued his career into modelling and participated in a contest and won the award for the Most Popular Model. Later he went on to do television serials. Post that he ventured into acting, he has also starred in the Indian films ‘Alone’ and ‘Hate Story 3’. The actor also worked as a Marketing Executive in Oman.

His films include ‘Dangal’ (2016), ‘Judwaa 2’ (2017) and ‘Raja the Great’ (2017).In 2007, Vivan got married to Nikhila Bhatena. He also starred in the film ‘Hate Story 4’. The actor moved from modelling to acting with his first television role as Tulsi's son-in-law Abhishek in ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’. The actor was a Mr. India title holder as well. He also appeared in Falguni Pathak's video ‘Maine Payal Hain Chankaayi’.

Upen Patel was judged as the Model of the Year for four consecutive years. In May 2006, Patel made his Bollywood debut with the film ‘36 China Town’, directed by the duo Abbas–Mustan. His next Bollywood movie, ‘Namastey London’, released in March 2007, where Patel played the character of a Pakistani Muslim living in London. He also appeared in 'Money Hai Toh Honey Hai'. Patel made a guest appearance in the 2008 film, 'One Two Three'. He then appeared in 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani', released in November 2009. UpenPatel made his Tamil film debut with the movie, 'I', released in January 2015 and directed by S. Shankar.
