Leave it to Ranveer Singh to take any role and transform it into a phenomenal character. A few days ago, the makers of his upcoming film 'Gully Boy' released a trailer announcement video which featured Ranveer rapping and introduced the audience to the concept of ‘asli (real) hip hop’. While the audience was already smitten by that, on Wednesday the trailer of the film was launched at a release event that was attended by the film's stars as well as director Zoya Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, who co-produced the film along with Farhan Akhtar.
And boy is it a sight for sore eyes. The trailer starts off with a rap battle between two people where Ranveer steps in. The story revolves around this young man whose hopes and dreams are to one day become a huge star through his rhymes and rap. Alia Bhatt and Kalki Koechlin play his contrasting romantic leads in the film. While Alia is shown to have come from a background similar to Ranveer's, Kalki represents the mainstream success he wants to achieve.
The film is in part based on the life and struggles of rapper Divine. The name of the film is inspired by his breakout song, 'Mere Gully Mein' and his troupe of street rappers, who go by the name ‘Gully Gang’. Helmed by director Zoya Akhtar, the film is all set to hit the big screens on February 14. Ahead of its release, the film will also premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival. Stay tuned for more updates.
