As our Indian divas are gaining momentum in the International media, we’re not surprised that they’re invited at the most exclusive event there is – The Met Gala! The gala this year saw four gorgeous Indian divas, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Isha Ambani and Natasha Poonawalla, walk down the proverbial red carpet ( in reality, the carpet was bubblegum pink!) - and each of them made their mark felt with their unique take on the playful theme of the gala this year. Naturally, the netizens and media had all their eyes on them, followed by hours and hours of discussions and then the unavoidable meme generation. Between such impassionate discussions, you have missed another Indian representation on the red carpet.
We’re talking about fashion designer Manish Arora. With a signature style that’s synonymous with ‘camp’, we’re honestly not surprised why! Australian actor, dancer, and singer-songwriter Keiynan Lonsdale pulled off a ballsy move by going gender bender in a butterfly dress from the designer's collection.
Made heat to toe in 1500 hand embroidered butterflies, the Butterfly Dress was aptly named and of course made our hearts fluttered. The body-hugging gown came with cut out details at the sides and a short trail, which probably why Lonsdale chose to wear the gown along with a lemon-yellow turtle neck. Check him out rocking the Manish Arora like an absolute diva.

Still figuring out who I am, constantly... but it’s a blessing to be able to be on that journey & play with it on such a stage, & alongside so many artists I look up to. Thank you to everyone who helped Rainbow Boy transform into a new self last night, @manisharorafashion @walkerdrawas @mrdrawas @nathanieldezan @katieqian, thank you to The Met Gala & @voguemagazine for having me (can’t believe this shit was real), thank you @thissongisnick & my team for everything this week, all of my friends for that emotional support cause i was definitely needing it, all the angels/dragons guiding me, all of you who believe in me & cheer me on even through the times I lose myself, & thank you most of all to my mum/best friend for the best love & wisdom always. Life is camp, that’s the point 💖🦋
But this wasn’t the only high point for Manish Arora. His iconic circus dress brought to fame by Katy Perry was a part of the ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’ exhibit at theThe Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City this year.
Sharing the news, the designer said, Camp is freedom of expression of any kind. Being yourself, extravagant, exaggerated, out of the box- that is camp; so is my work, my style and camp are here to stay. So proud and happy to share this. My iconic circus dress which was worn by @katyperry is a part of the metropolitan museum nyc for their exhibit CAMP: notes on fashion #metgala #metgala2019 #metcamp #manisharora #manisharorafashion #ididitmyway."
