Dairy: Dr. Oz explains that “dairy is an inflammatory, which can trigger acne because it promotes redness and swelling,” and can be “even more of an issue when someone is lactose or casein [a type of milk protein] intolerant. Food sensitivities, like lactose intolerances, can also cause skin eruptions.” But it is in fact, the proteins in cow's milk that can trigger breakouts. So, it's best to try and substitute it with almond milk or coconut milk.
02/9Refined grains and sugars
Foods like bread and white flour pasta can cause some serious damage to your skin. They make your skin vulnerable to bacterial and fungal attacks. They also lead to a loss in the glow of your skin and can also affect its texture. In fact, they can even lead to an increase in the volume of breakouts.
03/9Fast Food
If you're super into fast food like french fries, burgers, potato chips and pizza, we have some bad news for you. All of these food items contain fat and carbs and can seriously disrupt your hormonal levels. They can also cause inflammation which can eventually lead to breakouts.
04/9Non-Organic Meat
The food that your food eats can cause problems for you. The next time you buy meat, try and find out what it was fed. If it was eating inorganic foods then that can cause some serious issues for your skin. Animals that have been fed medicines and drugs can cause an imbalance in your body.
05/9Caffeine
While drinking coffee is a great way to start your day, it can eventually lead to breakouts on your skin. Coffee can increase the cortisol levels in your skin which can further increase insulin levels and can also increase stress. A rise in insulin levels can lead to an excessive production of sebum which can later lead to breakouts.
06/9Gluten
Dr. Oz notes that “gluten sensitivities are extremely prevalent and can contribute to inflammation and stomach imbalances, which trigger reactions that are visible in the skin.” So, now that there are gluten-free options available like gluten-free bread or pasta, try and opt for those instead.
07/9Night Shade Vegetables
Night shade vegetables like tomatoes, potatoes, pepper and eggplants are notorious for causing breakouts. Dr. Oz says that “while they all have important health properties, they can also be inflammatory. This is because there are alkaloids in nightshade vegetables, most notoriously solanine, which can cause inflammation and be irritating for the stomach.” So, instead eat skin-healthy vegetables like leafy greens, cauliflower, beetroot or brocco
08/9Sugar
As per the doctors, “sugar and foods that contain refined sugar cause inflammation, yeast overgrowth, and hormonal fluctuations. All of which, can all lead to bad skin.” But if you can't say no to something sweet, grab a dark chocolate instead. Although it might taste slightly bitter, it's a lot better for your skin.
09/9Condiments, Dressings, and Marinades
The doctor says, “Many people make the mistake of following a seemingly healthy diet, yet they don’t take into consideration what their foods are soaking in. Condiments, dressings, and marinades can be full of wheat, soy, sugar, refined vegetable oils and sneaky ingredients (very inflammatory) you may have never considered. If you’re acne-prone, it’s much better to prepare or order your food simply grilled with a little extra virgin olive oil instead.”
