Oily skin is hard enough to deal with without having random people constantly tell you what you should do to fix it. From regular breakouts to excessive sebum, oily skin goes through a plethora of problems on a daily basis. Add to that a bunch of myths that you believe in and you end up with the worst skincare decisions ever. If you're someone who has oily skin and would really like to keep your skin in a good condition, begin by not believing in these myths.
Myth 1: Oily skin doesn't need moisturiser - Although it may seem wise to not apply moisturiser to oily skin, the truth is that all skin types need moisturising. With oily skin, the problem is that the more you try to strip it of its oil, the oilier it becomes. When you skip moisturiser, your skin tends to produce even more oil to compensate for it and ultimately you end up with a weird oily sheen on your face. So, opt for a lightweight moisturiser and you'll see how much of a difference it can make.
Myth 2: Oily skin is the only cause of acne - A lot of people tend to think that oily skin is the only thing that causes acne. However, there are a lot of other factors like hormonal imbalance, environmental pollutants etc that can lead to breakouts. So, make sure that you narrow down what the problem is before you try to fix your skin.
Myth 3: Washing your face constantly can reduce oil production - Again, if you over wash your skin, it'll get stripped of its natural oils and will lead to excessive oil production to compensate for the lack of moisture. Don't wash your face more than twice a day. Carry some blotting papers and face mist with you. They'll help get rid of any excess oil.
