01/8Here's how your morning regimen may make you sick
Ladies, beware your morning beauty regimen may make you ill. That time a day may feel like a blur given that you are running around getting ready so you can head out the door on time. However, you may be looking for potential health hazards in your rush. For instance, something as basic as putting on makeup may cause you to become sick. Why? Because germs can thrive in more places than you realise. Here are a few ways your beauty regimen may make you ill.
02/8Using old razor blades
“Old, dull razor blades can cause razor burns, bumps, acne, and other irritations to the skin and hair follicles," explains an expert. Old razor blades are also more prone to rusting and that can lead to serious skin infections. So, make sure that you change your blades regularly.
03/8Keeping your medicine in your bathroom
Your bathroom is one of the worst places for you to store your medicine. When you take a bath, the moisture and heat from the water can damage your medicine and make them more potent. This way they can actually go bad before their expiration date.
04/8Popping zits
Please stop doing this immediately. When you apply so much pressure to your skin, it leads to scarring and even hyper-pigmentation. The best thing you can do for your skin is to not touch it in any way and to just let the zit heal on its own.
05/8Face scrubbers may contain bacteria
Using exfoliating brushes may help you get glowing and healthy skin. But if you are not careful, it could cause damage to the skin if you do not wash the cloth and face scrubbers regularly. "People should definitely be cleansing and sanitizing any tool they take to their face," Susan Bard, a cosmetic dermatologist at Vanguard Dermatology in NYC, told a news portal. Adding, "Clarisonic-type brushes should be popped off their bases and cleaned weekly with antibacterial soap then allowed to dry thoroughly."
06/8Your makeup brush may be dirty
It may be highly likely for you to contract an infection or sickness if you use dirty makeup brushes. "People almost never clean them, and they can transfer dangerous bacteria from your bathroom right to your face," Susan Bard, a cosmetic dermatologist at Vanguard Dermatology in NYC, told a news portal. Wash your brushes with shampoo every couple of weeks.
07/8You’re using expired makeup
While it may be tempting to hold on to the product you barely use but love, it could become a health issue. "The expiration date on makeup refers to the preservatives meant to keep the product fresh and bacteria-free," Brian Francis, an ophthalmologist at the Doheny Eye Center at Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center in California, told a news portal. Adding, "Using makeup past the expiry date means that the preservatives are no longer as effective as they should be, allowing for the growth of bacteria, which can lead to infection when applied to the skin."
08/8Taking a shower with your contact lenses still on
Showering with your contact lenses still on could lead to a host of issues. "I've seen patients with serious complications and even blindness resulting from improper care of their contact lenses," Brian Francis, an ophthalmologist at the Doheny Eye Center at Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center in California, told a news portal. Adding, "Lenses are sponges and they'll absorb parasites and bacteria that live in tap water."
