SC finally reads down the 158-year-old colonial law and has allowed gay sex among consenting adults in private. Section 377 has been decriminalised and the verdict clearly states that the "Sexual orientation of an individual is natural and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is a violation of freedom of expression," as expressed by Chief Justice of India, Dipak Mishra.
The country is rejoicing and much like us, our B-Town celebs and designers are too. The historic verdict has been much appreciated by B-Town including the likes of designers like Manish Malhotra and Rohit Verma. Director Karan Johar was also one of the firsts from Bollywood to take to Twitter to exclaim what a proud Indian he is today.
Rohit Verma said, "The nature is more powerful than any human and the justice now has bowed in front of it. The victory is not of any human or form this victory is of God’s creation the Almighty who looks at all with an equal eye. My happiness and gratitude towards the law of nature which has established itself and the gays are also considered as any other normal human beings." Manish Malhotra exclusively said to us, "I think it’s a proud moment for India. It’s a kind of freedom that everyone should have and live with, to make your own choices. It’s excellent and I am proud of my India."
Well-known men's designer, Sahil Aneja exclusively said to us, "The first thing that came to my mind when I heard this news was the feeling of relief and extreme pride for my friends from the LGBT community. They have been nothing but brave and strong through all this. It’s not just freedom for them but it’s for all of us as a society." Actress Kriti Sanon said, "Everyone has the right to be who they want to be, to recognise their sexuality and love who they want to love without being judged! Love has no rules or conditions and that's how it should be! This is the India we should be! This was a much-needed step and I am thrilled that it’s finally happened! A few of my closest friends (who are also my staff) are gay and I would love to see them get married!"
