11/16‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’
Our hearts got stolen after this movie. DDLJ is one of the classics of Indian cinema. Every girl wants a Raj and every guy is looking for her Simran since 1995. Shahrukh and Kajol stumble and rise in love and do it in the midst of a landmine and come out unscathed. Another cult classic, which shows us the ins and outs of Punjabi weddings back in the 90s, is still a favourite.
12/16‘Vivah’
The movie took us all to love the old school way. This film made Shahid and Amrita a household name as they won millions of hearts with their shy yet powerful portrayal of love. It made us believe in magic in arranged marriages that seems like an age-old practice these days. This is one of the most beautiful movies made in Bollywood that showed us why humanity stands above all. And why everything else takes a back seat. The entire movie is an ode to Indian weddings as each and every ritual takes place and is celebrated with the typical Indian family.
13/16‘Taal’
Akshaye Khanna comes to visit India with his wealthy father Amrish Puri, his aunt and uncle, and his father's employees. In Chamba he meets Aishwarya Rai, daughter of a spiritual singer named Alok Nath; Jagmohan Mehta owns the Mehta & Mehta group and is into investing in Chamba; their families meet, and Amrish Puri and Alok Nath become acquainted and friendly toward each other. Aishwarya Rai’s family was of low social status. Aishwarya Rai’s father goes to talk to Akshaye Khanna’s family in Mumbai, the family does not accept them as their social status is low, later Akshaye Khanna apologizes and in the end, they got get happily married.
14/16‘Tanu Weds Manu’ series
The film deals essentially in weddings, so much so that even its sequel had strong marriage-themed undertones to its narration. R Madhavan and Kangana Ranaut's ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ series is the only film in this genre to enter the Rs 100 crore club. Five years after Tanu and Manu got married, the couple faces marital woes but get back together again. When Tanu (Kangana Ranaut) met Manu (R Madhavan) for the first time, it was the latter that fell in love at first sight. Eventually, the couple got married and headed for a happily-ever-after.
15/16‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein’
The story starts with narration by Maddy (R. Madhavan) himself. Maddy is the son of a music shop owner (Anupam Kher) who hopes that Maddy will someday take over his shop. Instead, Maddy is a total brat, not serious about studies and notorious in his college. He harasses girls in his college. Maddy is deeply attracted to Reena (Dia Mirza) and tries to learn more about her but in vain. However, destiny makes them meet again when he sees her in Mumbai. Soon he learns that Reena's marriage has been arranged with Rajeev Samra, Reena's childhood friend, and an NRI. Maddy also learns that Reena doesn't know how Rajeev looks like now and that Rajiv is coming next week to meet her. Later Reena and Maddy are united once again.
16/16‘Namastey London’
This film is a take on NRI marriages; the film captured the journey of a Punjabi boy marrying an NRI girl. Apart from the sizzling chemistry between Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, the film depicted the contrast between India and the West when it comes to matrimony, parenting, and respect.
