Fashion Weeks are our favourite time of year. They’ve got it all. From celebrities to style galore and of course, fashion everywhere you look, they are what makes our jobs just that tad bit more interesting and fun! Well, we just experienced that today as we started our long weekend with the Bombay Times Fashion Week, an event, we fashionistas look forward to every year. And while we knew what to expect, this edition of the fashion week was everything we expected and much more (and it’s just been one day yet)! Let us walk you through Day 1 at the Bombay Times Fashion Week!
Kickstarting our event, we had politician and designer, Shaina NC and what a start it was! Commemorating all-powerful Indian women, we had talented and successful women from all walks of life taking to the ramp in some gorgeous outfits. From resplendent embroidered kurtas to beautiful drapes and more, the collection was an Indian lover’s dream. Showstopper, Pooja Chopra looked stunning in her ensemble as she shut down the ramp at the show.

Next, we had, Adaa Mallikk, presenting. A vast collection of cocktail gowns took to the ramp here. The ‘corset’ being the key focus, her gowns were perfect for the modern Indian woman who wants to keep it blingy yet comfortable. Bright colours took to the ramp and… it almost looked like a party! Proud dad, Anu Malik walked the ramp with his daughter toward the end.

Tasneem Merchant ruled the ramp with her Indian wear that was the perfect amalgamation of texture meeting with embroidery. Paying ode to Indian textiles, the collection was uniquely stunning and of course, showstopper Neetu Chandra made for a sight for sore eyes in an elaborate Indian outfit!
Tisharth by Shivani Jain’s collection was a stark contrast to what took to the ramp earlier. Her collection, Moonlight reeked of fitness, clean lines, sharp structures and doing away with embellishment or print, Shivani aptly played around with the colour palette ranging from blacks to navy blues and lots of summery whites. Showstopper, Nushrat Bharucha looked like a dream in her outfit featuring an embellished corset top and a tiered ruffled skirt with a thigh-high slit.

Just when we had gotten over Shivani’s design excellence, came Shahin Mannan and her outstanding collection. Featuring chambray, denim and a whole lot of other fabrics, Mannan’s collection was made for the Indian woman who wants to maintain that work-party balance. Quirky motifs on sharp silhouettes like pantsuits and A-line dresses ruled the ramp. Playing showstopper here was the gorgeous Shibani Dandekar in a stunning mustard coat-dress featuring a high slit and adorned with shimmery quirky insect motifs on the shoulders and sleeves.

The night just kept getting better and bringing Parisian-influences to the ramp, next, was Mandira Wirk’s collection and to say the least, it was a summertime dream come true! From breezy dresses to sheer skirts, sunnies and transparent beach bags, Mandira transported us to the beach…literally! Playing showstopper for her, was none other than Malaika Arora who looked resplendent in an easy-breezy yet finely detailed dress with a sexy cut-out back (a speciality of Mandira’s).

No more summertiume sadness…
Closing the night in glam style, was Nandita Mahtani and her disco-y collection. Inspired by the ’70s, her collection was all bling and more! From all-over sequined numbers to partly embellished pieces, her collection was night-life perfection. She even brought back the ’70s head-band and rainbow colours! Muse and showstopper, Sonakshi Sinha closed the ramp for the night (and for Nandita) in an all-over sequined spaghetti-strapped number and in it, she looked her gorgeous self.
