Princess Diana arguably remains one of the most well-known Royal around the world. Her humane and philanthropic nature remains one of her biggest legacies. However, the late princess was also amongst the biggest icons of fashion. And it wouldn’t be a lie if we said that she still retains that position.
Princess Diana’s fashion was a talking point for many. She was often lauded for her choice of ensembles. Some of her outfits even went on making headlines. One such dress was the off-shoulder blue evening gown by Victor Edelstein.
While Diana was photographed wearing the dress at least at four different events, she was also seen wearing it at the White House in 1985 when US President Ronald Reagan invited the royal couple for a dinner. It was at that party, the Princess danced with the then Hollywood superstar, John Travolta, which then gave the dress the name, ‘The John Travolta Dress.’
The dress is part of Kerry Taylor's Auctions upcoming Passion for Fashion auction and is expected to be auctioned off for 250,000 to 350,000 pounds or 325,000 to 450,000 dollars!
John Travolta even spoke about the experience in a 2007 interview to a Dutch television station - Een. "I didn't know or expect to dance with Princess Diana," the actor said and also mentioned that it was the president's wife Nancy Regan's wish for the dance to happen! "At midnight, I had to tap on her shoulder and I had to say, 'Would you care to dance'. She turned around and dipped her head in that Lady Diana way and we were off for 15 minutes dancing. I'll never forget it," said Travolta who also said he was honoured to have experienced it and was her favourite moment!
