If you like someone, sending them a simple 'Hey' may not suffice. In fact, it might not grab their attention at all. Text them something funny or quirky and see just how fast they'll reply to you. And do make sure that there aren't any typos in your messages because that will just make you look dumb.

If you're texting someone for the first time, the least you can do is be open to the type of person they are. You don't know them and you most certainly don't know what they've been through so keep all your judgements to yourself. Don't make any comment that may not come across well to them.
