Taking care of a little baby isn't an easy task. They are very delicate, mentally and physically. And not just that, even their skin needs to be taken care of the most. You have to be extra cautious when it comes to sanitation and nurturing of newborn baby's skin. There are a few things new moms should keep in mind while taking care of a newborn's skin.
- Don't give them regular baths: Babies who are just born do not require a bath on a daily basis. Their skin is very frail for an everyday bath. You can instead give them one 2-3 times a week. This will keep their skin's upper layer away from dryness with the help of natural oils. Also, make sure you aren't using a harsh body product for cleansing purposes. Use a mild skin or water-based wipes that are very gentle on the baby's skin.
- Protect their skin from sun's rays: Not just adults but even a baby's skin needs to be protected from the sun's harmful rays. Unprotected UV exposure can lead to sunburn, sun damage and other skin issues in childhood which could lead to early signs of skin ageing later in life. Hence, it is very important to keep infants away from the sun as much as possible. They should be kept in shad as much as possible. You can even dress them in long-sleeved clothes and pants and can even make them wear sunglasses.
- Know the diaper basics: The most roughness that a baby experiences is around the diaper area. You cannot really control how often you will be needing the diapers but you can surely choose a skin-friendly product. Most of an infant's skin products are rich in harmful agents like paraben. This is why, you should be very picky with their diaper brands. Make sure you change their diapers frequently and not use any gels, soaps or wipes as they might have chemicals or scents that might not suit the baby's skin.
- Choose the right products: Research as much as possible before buying baby products and make sure most of the products are made of natural ingredients. If you'd like to buy fragrant products, you can rely on some companies that sell herbal-derived scents in wipes or other products. But products that are alcohol-free and skin-friendly which won't cause redness, irritation or skin burns.
