Virat Kohli has been doing a phenomenal job as a Captain supported by his team which is displaying top form in test cricket. And after their 178-run win over New Zealand at Eden Gardens, they have secured the top spot for India in test-cricket world rankings.
In the post match presentation ceremony, Kohli said, “Our objective is to keep playing consistent cricket, having rankings and getting to number one and dropping it is not in our hands, but with this long season, it's in our control in my opinion.”
He gave credit for the victory to the lower-order batsmen, and special praise to the man-of-the-match Wriddhiman Saha saying, “Those extra runs in the end, Saha, and Bhuvi and Shami contributing in the end, was crucial. Saha was brilliant, he's the best keeper in the country, and he’s doing a great job in Test cricket. That hundred in the West Indies really improved his confidence; he understands how to bat with the tail now.”
Ross Taylor, New Zealand's stand-in skipper lauded the wicket, saying the conditions were unexpected for the team. He said, “Very impressive, the way the bowlers got stuck in hot, humid conditions, we put India under pressure, but credit to them for withstanding it with Saha contributing in both innings. To be honest, we thought the pitch would be different. A good cricket wicket, it's just been relaid, and is going to get better and better.”
Congratulations Team India! You have made us proud with this victory!
