Map the closest nature spots near you

When you get a chance, take the time to map out all the nature spots that are closest you. There should be a few places near your work and at home. This way you can take a few minutes in your day to visit these places and get some fresh air. If the closet spot near you is a little out of the way, no problem. Put it on your list of things to do over the weekend.

Give forest therapy a try

A popular group activity many participate in is forest therapy. It is based on the art of forest bathing. Groups of people head out in nature with a guide and use ritual and mindfulness tools to explore the great outdoors. "The point of forest therapy — the way we teach it — is to cultivate a deep relationship between humans and places,"Ben Page, director of training at the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy (ANFT), told a news portal. Adding, "Part of this relationship is based in this idea of reciprocity. It's not just about human health — this is about cultivating a relationship that yields health benefits for both humans and ecological spaces."

Commute to work in a new way

A December 2018 study published in the journal Environment International found commuting to work by walking or biking can boost one's mental health significantly. If you live really far from your work, get off a few bus stops away from your destination and start walking from there. Even 15 minutes can be extremely beneficial. Find a park you can walk through or body of water you can walk past.

Mark it on your calendar

Taking a few minutes to enjoy the sunshine and sit amongst the trees may seem like a can't do activity if you have a jam-packed schedule. But look at that list a little carefully, you are sure to find room. 20 minutes in nature is sometimes all you need to reset and relax. Even if it is part of your exercise routine, you will feel better. "We know that exercising outdoors is easier. People report less pain, less fatigue and they're able to go longer and faster," reported researchers of a Scientific Reports study.
