Over the years, several studies have proven that technological advances can cause and pose as threats to pregnant women around the world. And while women all around the world know the risks that x-ray radiations cause on their health and the baby's. they seem to be rather oblivious to the fact that exposure to non-ionising radiation from smartphones too double the risks of a miscarriage.
What are non-ionising radiations you ask? Non-ionising radiation is produced when there is enough energy to move around atoms in a molecule, but not enough to remove electrons completely. And this takes place when electric devices are in use and electricity is flowing. These radiations can be caused by a number of electric appliances like power lines and transformers, wireless devices and wireless networks.
"While the health hazards from ionising radiation are well-established and include radiation sickness, cancer and genetic damage, the evidence of health risks to humans from non-ionising radiation remains limited," said De-Kun Li, a reproductive and perinatal epidemiologist at the Kaiser Permanente, a US-based healthcare firm. And a study proved that women who were exposed to higher magnetic fields levels had 2.72 times the risk of miscarriage than those with lower magnetic fields exposure.
"This study provides evidence from a human population that magnetic field non-ionising radiation could have adverse biological impacts on human health," Li noted. As women, we hope you've taken back something productive from this.
