Want to shed all those extra kilos but don't have the time to go to the gym? Well, worry not because HIIPA is here to come to your rescue. HIIPA stands for High Intensity Incidental Physical Activity and refers to any physical activity that will get you huffing and puffing even if it's for a really short duration of time. It basically means that when you opt for short bursts of exercise like running up the stairs or walking uphill or carrying groceries for a good 100 metres, the amount of energy you expend is over six times as much energy per minute than when you’re at rest. And this means that it amounts to as many calories you'll diminish if you hit the gym.
“Regular incidental activity that gets you huffing and puffing even for a few seconds has great promise for health,” Emmanuel Stamatakis, professor of Physical Activity, Lifestyle and Population Health explains. “There is a lot of research telling us that any type of HIIT, irrespective of the duration and number of repetitions is one of the most effective ways to rapidly improve fitness and cardiovascular health and HIPPA works on the same idea,” said Professor Stamatakis.
The best part about HIIPA is that you're already doing it in your day-to-day lives so you don't have to take out time to do some extra exercise. As compared to going to the gym, this form of exercise is a lot more realistic and doable and it is even affordable for everyone. “It’s just about making good decisions like parking the car at the edge of the carpark and carrying shopping for 50 or 100 metres,” said Professor Stamatakis. Well, we sure like this idea. Don't you? Stay tuned for more updates.
