Most of us have this unspoken hatred for the green veggie - bitter gourd. It's that one vegetable that makes us all run away when we're asked to eat it, but how many of you knew that you can use it for beauty purposes? Karela or bitter gourd is a powerhouse of nutrients like vitamin A and C, antioxidants and calcium that gives you healthy skin, prevents wrinkles and also premature aging. Not just that, it also reduces acne, protects the skin from harmful UV rays and helps in treating eczema.
Here's how you can put bitter gourd to use:
- For smooth skin: Face pack
made out of bitter gourd will help yo in moisturizing your skin and leave it feeling hydrated, smooth and supple. You can make this face pack by adding 1 tbsp aloe vera, 3-4 slices of bitter gourd and 1 tsp of honey. Blend it well and apply the paste on your face. Wash it off with warm water once you've given it 15 minutes on your face.
- For scrubbing: Your skin tends to collect oil and dirt and to do away with that, you can use bitter gourd and cucumber. All you need for this hydrating scrub is a tsp of bitter gourd juice and cucumber juice. Mix them well and apply the scrub on your face in a gentle circular motion. Once you're done, you can wash your face with normal water and then gently dab a towel to pat dry it.
- For glowing skin: If you wish to achieve a smooth and glowing sin, you can use the bitter gourd face pack to your rescue. You need a handful of neem and basil leaves with a bitter gourd and 1 tsp of milk. You need to apply this face pack and let it sit for 15-20 minutes or till the pack is completely dry. You can then wash it off with normal water and pat towel your face dry.
- To prevent acne: Neem and turmeric have anti-inflammatory properties which can keep acne issues at bay. You need to grind some neem leaves with bitter gourd and add a little bit of turmeric to the mix. Apply this face pack to your skin with a cotton pad and leave it on for 15-20 minutes. Wash it off with normal water.
