Diabetes is one of the most fatal conditions that so many people across the entire world are prone to. In fact, after heart disease, diabetes might be the second-largest contributor to premature death. And anyone who suffers from type 2 diabetes knows just how tedious it is to help keep their blood sugar levels in check. But if you make sure that your blood sugar levels don't rise, then type 2 diabetes is not as dangerous as it could be otherwise. And a new study has found that consuming a herbal powder could help keep your blood sugar levels under control.
That's right, when you make certain lifestyle and dietary changes
that can help benefit your health, it leads to a reduction of conditions and illnesses that could have been previously harming your body and type 2 diabetes is included in this. And while there might not be any specific kind of food or ingredient that can work by itself in keeping your diabetes under control, studies have found that the holy basil herb also known as Tulsi still manages to reduce your blood sugar levels significantly.
The study was able to find that consuming holy basil herb or Tulsi in powdered form could help out in wondrous ways when it came to reducing blood sugar levels. In fact, it was found that this powdered herb could lower fasting and post-meal blood glucose levels. For those uninitiated, fasting blood glucose levels refer to the level of your blood sugar after an overnight fast.
Researchers conducted a study on 40 individuals who were asked to stop all kinds of medication they were on for their diabetes. While half of these patients were given 2.5g of holy basil leaf powder daily, the other half received a placebo. When the test results were out, the participants who were consuming the powdered herb showed 17.6 percent reduction in fasting blood glucose levels and a 7.3 percent reduction in post-meal blood glucose levels. Even animal studies were able to claim that holy basil powder worked significantly to reduce blood sugar levels.
Well, this certainly goes to prove that if people opt for the right kind of foods along with their medication, it could help keep their diabetes levels in check without them having to constantly worry about it. Stay tuned for more updates.
