This one is for all the women out there. For most part of your adult life, you have to deal with periods. The one that comes every single months and brings a lot of issues along with it. Right from headaches to menstrual cramps and body pain, the symptoms are many during this time of the month. These problems arise and calm down with the period days but the one thing that it leaves behind is the acne and pimple scars. These sure take a while to leave our skin and just when our skin starts clearing of any spots, it's time for another menstrual cycle for another month.
Premenstrual acne, also known as PMS acne is a real phenomenon. This comes in each month and only worsens your skin condition. And for people who already have acne problems, PMS worsens to a whole new level. People who have clear skin have real issues to deal with all these acne scars once their period days end. This is because our body reacts to hormonal changes, but it gets stressful if you have to deal with it every single month.
Now, it is very important to understand the root cause of it. So here we go:
Most breakouts happen 5-10 days before your period cycle and it is usually due to the dip in the estrogen levels. It then results in high levels of testosterone which can make your skin even more oilier than the usual and clogs the pores which ultimately traps all the dirt and oil.
You should get your hormones checked to see if you have PCOS or hypothyroid or even raised prolactin or androgen levels if you experience breakouts every other month. You should be getting a treatment for this condition by visiting any endocrinologist or gynaecologist.
Also, there are a few foods that can trigger acne too. You should be avoiding any food that has high glycemic index such as sugar, sweets and potatoes.
Make sure you use proper skincare products that helps in treating pimples and acne issues before and during your period cycle. Cursing your skin isn't a solution, instead, treat it accordingly and you'll be relieved.
