A woman’s brain has always been a mystery, more to men of course. However, today it seems that a woman’s brain is far more mysterious than we ever knew. According to a recent study, women absorb and retain DNA of every man that they have had sex with. So, we guess this means that memories of those sexual encounters will always be there in your body in the form of sperms.
Scientists scrutinised the female brain and they stumbled over the fact that female brains often harbour “male microchimerism”, or in other words, the presence of male DNA that originated from another individual, and are genetically distinct from the cells that make up the rest of the woman. But where did these cells come from?
A new study was recently conducted by the University of Seattle and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. And according to this study, “63% of the females (37 of 59) tested harboured male microchimerism in the brain. Male microchimerism was present in multiple brain regions.” So, 63% of women carry male DNA cells that live in their brains. Now, obviously, the researchers wanted to know where the male DNA came from.
As most people know, a man's DNA mixes with a women's DNA during pregnancy to create a child - but apparently, this DNA didn’t come from your father. Confused with their first attempt, the scientists assumed that the male DNA present in women came from carrying a son in pregnancy. However, many of the women involved in the study said they had never been even pregnant.
After several attempts at research, the scientists concluded, “Male microchimerism was not infrequent in women without sons. Besides known pregnancies, other possible sources of male microchimerism include unrecognised spontaneous abortion, vanished male twin, an older brother transferred by the maternal circulation, or sexual intercourse.Male microchimerism was significantly more frequent and levels were higher in women with induced abortion than in women with other pregnancy histories. Further studies are needed to determine specific origins of male microchimerism in women.”
So according to the scientists, the possible sources of the male DNA cells living in the woman’s brains are:
1. Sexual intercourse
2. A male twin that vanished
3. An older brother transferred by the maternal circulation
4. An abortion the woman didn't know about
Now, the second, third and fourth options apply to a very small percentage of women. They can’t possibly account for the 63% figure! Well, that brought the researchers to conclude that the fourth option seemed like the more likely one, that being sexual intercourse.
Now, this conclusion is rather interesting to note. Simply put, every spermatozoa absorbed by a woman from a man becomes a living part of the woman! The autopsied women as part of this study were found carrying living male DNA for over a good 50 years considering their age.
Sperms are living cells. Once they enter your body during sex, they swim until they crash into a wall in your body. Then they attach and dig themselves into your flesh. During a blowjob if they enter your mouth, they swim and can climb into your nasal passages, or behind your eyes. Sperms enter your bloodstream and get collected into your brain and spine.
With this fascinating research, we can say that a male sperm leaves behind a permanent imprint on the female brain after sex.
